Aligned Impact Muscatine County (AIM), Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and Eastern Iowa Community College have partnered with Muscatine Community School District, West Liberty School District, and Wilton School District to offer a Summer Melt Mentorship Program. Summer Melt is the phenomenon where a high school student who intends to go on to postsecondary education after high school graduation doesn’t continue their education in the fall. They “melt” away. This summer mentorship program has been put into place to help students that may need advice on the steps they need to take over the summer. The program continues through the summer. Some services that are offered are financial aid assistance, college enrollment, career exploration and post secondary mentorship. Spanish speaking mentors are available for the students and their families. If students bring a friend, they will each receive a free drink at the Black Pearl!
