Some exciting things are happening in Muscatine County! Thanks to a partnership between Aligned Impact Muscatine County (AIM) and a national organization called Children’s Funding Project (CFP), our community is taking big steps to make sure every child has the opportunities they deserve.
So, what’s the buzz all about? It’s all about money and strategy. Making sure the dollars we spend on kids and youth programs are used in the smartest way.
What’s new?
United Way Muscatine County: AIM now has a Children’s Funding Coordinator (CFC). The role of the CFC was created to help us understand where our funding comes from and how it is being used. This person (that’s me, Yesenia!) is working with CFP to gather data and create tools that will make a huge difference.
The Tools We’re Building
-
Fiscal Map
Think of this as a big picture of all the money flowing into programs for children and youth in Muscatine County. From federal, state, and local sources, it will show who is paying for what and where the gaps are.
-
Cost Modeling
This helps us figure out the true cost of running programs and keeping them sustainable over time. No more guessing- just clear numbers.
-
Funding Source Analysis
Once we know what we have and what we need, we can look for new ways to fill the gaps.
Why Does This Matter?
When communities understand how money is being spent, we can make better decisions that are backed by data. That means more resources for the things that matter most- education, health, and opportunities for every child in Muscatine County.
Sharing Our Journey
Earlier this year, in April, I had the wonderful opportunity to share Muscatine County’s progress at the Rural Summit for Cradle to Career Success in Anchorage, Alaska. We talked about how aligning the people, data, and funding can transform rural communities. Muscatine County is proud to be CFP’s first rural partner and a model for other rural communities.
What’s next?
Once our fiscal map and cost models are complete, Muscatine County will have powerful tools to guide decisions and make sure that every dollar counts. This is about building a future where every child has the support they need to thrive.
